May started
good for me with a second
place and national record
in the IAAF Challenge
in Sesto 1st of May.
As always the women's
race was in the morning
and the men's race in
the afternoon. And also
this year the conditions
were better in the morning.
My brother Erik Tysse
and the rest of the
men started their race
at 4pm with 32 degrees
Celsius, thankfully
the temperature went
down a little bit during
the race, but still
it was hot when they
finished! It was an
interesting race to
watch and I hope they
enjoyed the very good
crowd as much as I did
in the morning. The
spectators had the start
lists and they cheered
for each athlete by
name, it was very motivating!
And I think it was a
very good idea! Erik
did a very good race.
He passed 10k in 41:39
in 3rd place together
with Robbie Heffernan.
Erik walked the last
10k in 39:59 and was
the first to cross the
finish line! He won
his first big international
race and I was very
happy for him! The day
couldn't have been better
for Team Plätzer!
After
Sesto I was very tired.
My back was sore and
I needed longer time
than usual to recover.
We decided that it was
important for me to
recover good and to
get my back ok again.
I felt that I needed
to focus on training
and technique for the
next weeks. Therefore
I stayed at home and
I trained four weeks
of "winter training"
during May. The "winter
training" was done
in winter training gear,
because the weather
was not good at all.
Only the last three
days were nice with
temperatures over 15
degrees and no rain!!!
In one month I never
race walked as much
as I did this May.
I am
convinced it was correct
to focus on training
and technique instead
of preparing another
race. Now I feel that
I have "filled
up my bank account"
again and I am ready
to compete in June.
